About this word search
Small children at a big family meal often finish eating long before the adults do. A sheet with ten short words keeps them close to the table without reaching for a screen.
Pie and Corn make good first finds because they are short and easy to sound out. Show how a word starts with its first letter and carries on to the right or straight down, as nothing in this grid goes any other way. Family and Autumn are longer, so a grown-up may need to read them out.
When all ten are found, ask your child to point at the real things on the table: the gravy, the corn, the pie. Leaves can be gathered on a walk the next morning and stuck onto a thank-you card.
