About this word search

The cornucopia, or horn of plenty, takes its name from the Latin cornu copiae and goes back to Greek myth, long before the Pilgrims. It became a Thanksgiving symbol because it shows a harvest spilling over, and here it sits next to Mayflower, Pecan pie and Harvest moon.

Twenty-eight words fill an eighteen-square grid in all eight directions, backwards included. Two-word entries such as Mashed potatoes, Cranberry sauce and Carving knife lose their spaces, which makes them long and fairly easy to see once you catch the start. The short ones, Acorn and Napkin, take longer.

For a game after the meal, one person reads out a definition of a word from the list and the others race to guess it and circle it.
