About this word search

Discus and Javelin were already part of the pentathlon at the ancient Olympics in Greece, while the Velodrome, a banked oval track for cycling, belongs to the modern era. The list moves between those two worlds, from the Anthem and the Motto to Weightlifting and the Host city.

Several entries are long joined strings, OPENINGCEREMONY and OLYMPICVILLAGE among them, and in this eighteen-row grid they may run backwards or slant. Two entries start with OLYMPIC, so a find of those letters needs checking before you circle it.

Older fans can pick an event from the list and look up the current World record, then compare it with their own Personal best at something closer to home, such as a mile run or a long jump in gym class.
