About this word search

To throw down the Gauntlet once meant challenging someone to a fight, because a knight tossed his armored glove on the ground as a dare. The phrase is still in use, and a history class can hunt for other everyday expressions that come from the Middle Ages.

LADYINWAITING loses its hyphens, and MIDDLEAGES and ARROWSLIT lose their spaces. Words point every way on this eighteen-row board, reversed ones included. Visor and Herald are short enough to hide in plain sight.

Older students can split the list three ways: who lived and worked in a castle, which parts made up the building, and what was used in battle. Jester and Blacksmith go in the first group, Turret and Gatehouse in the second, Crossbow and Trebuchet in the third.
