About this word search

Wednesday is in this list on purpose. Its silent D trips up spellers well into middle school, and seeing it in a grid helps. Labor Day closes the summer in the United States on the first Monday of September, and the Solstice marks the longest or shortest day of the year.

Words can travel any direction in this large grid, reversed ones included. Millennium, with its double L and double N, and Spring break, written as one word, are good places to start. Short ones like Second and Season can wait until the end.

Afterward, students can sort the words into units of time, parts of the day and special days on the calendar.

Ways to use this word search

  • In the classroom

Print it as a task for early finishers, or to open a lesson on this topic. With the QR code on the sheet, students check their own answers.

  • At home and on the go

Pack a few printed sheets for the car, the train or a family vacation. A pen is all you need, no screen required.

  • Play together

Try it in Spanish too
