About this word search
A Fox, an Owl and a Bear are storybook regulars, while Pig, Cow and Duck could all be met on a farm visit. That mix gives a young reader names they can already picture, and none of them is longer than four letters.
Settle in next to your child and say the whole list aloud before anyone picks up a pencil. Then choose one word, put a finger on its first letter in the grid and slide it to the right or downwards to check what comes next. Words only ever travel in those two directions, which keeps the search calm for small hands.
Once all ten are circled, make each animal's noise together, or ask which ones you might meet on a farm and which at the zoo.
