About this word search
If there is a pet at home, start there. Ask your child to find the word for your own animal first, such as Dog or Fish, and then go looking for the others together.
None of the words turns a corner, slants or runs backwards. They go across or down only, so a child reads each one the usual way. Saying the letters aloud while tracing them, R then A then T, helps a new reader link each sound to its shape.
Vet is a nice word to talk about afterwards. Ask what happens at the vet and how a pet might feel on the way there, then let your child draw the waiting room with a dog, a cat and a mouse in a cage.
