About this word search
Pig, Cow and Duck live on a farm, Fox and Owl in the woods, and the Lion somewhere far away. Before picking up a pencil, read the list aloud and ask your child where each animal lives. A three-way sort into farm, forest and faraway gets them talking before the search even starts.
The animals in this ten by ten grid either lie flat along a row, read the usual way, or hang straight down a column. Point at the first letter of a word on the list, then help your child slide a finger along each row until that letter appears. From there, check the letters to its right, then the ones below it.
Afterwards, ask which animal would make the best pet and why. Fox usually gets a surprising number of votes.
