About this word search

The gritter is a British winter sight: the lorry that spreads salt on the roads before a frost to stop Black ice forming. It shares this list with the Snowplough, the Toboggan and a Woolly hat, plus a few cosier words such as Porridge, Duvet and Log fire.

The winter solstice, around 21 December, is the shortest day of the year in the northern hemisphere. After that the days slowly lengthen again, even if the cold carries on for weeks.

With eighteen squares a side and words in all directions, scan for the unusual letters first. Balaclava has four A's and a V, and Earmuffs has a double F. Snowball fight and Ski slope lose their spaces.
