About this word search

Older students with an atlas will recognize most of these, but the spelling can be a challenge. Mediterranean has a double R, Archipelago is built from Greek roots, and Fjord comes from Norwegian. Everest is the highest mountain above sea level, and the Nile and the Amazon still compete for the title of longest river.

Words point in all eight directions here, some of them right to left. Start with the long phrases written without spaces, like North America and Arctic Ocean. The FJ in Fjord is a rare letter pair, so it stands out quickly.

Afterward, students can sort the words into landforms, bodies of water and terms for reading a map.
