About this word search
Every word here is short, most of them three or four letters, which suits a child who has just started sounding words out. Hen, Pig and Mud each have one clear vowel in the middle, so they make good warm-ups for letter sounds before the hunt begins.
In this ten by ten grid a word either marches along a row toward the right or drops down a column, and that is all. Choose Barn or Goat as a first target, because the B and the G stand out. Your child can trace each row with a fingertip, naming letters as the finger travels, until the right one turns up.
After a visit to a farm, let your child draw the animal they liked most and copy its name from the puzzle underneath the picture.
