About this word search

Long names like Triceratops are too much for a beginning reader, so Dino stands in for all of them here, next to Fern, the plant many dinosaurs ate. Rex means king in Latin, a detail that young fans tend to enjoy hearing.

In this ten by ten grid, a word either travels along its row in the normal reading direction or slides down a column from the top. Point to the first letter of a word, say its sound, and search for it together. Once you find it, check the next square to the right and the one underneath.

When all ten are circled, give a loud Roar for each one. Then hide a few toy dinosaurs in a tub of sand or rice and let your child dig them out like a fossil hunter.
