About this word search

The Snow gum is a eucalypt that grows near the tree line in the Australian Alps, with twisted, streaky trunks that stand out against the snow. It sits in this list next to Doona, the local word for a quilt or duvet, and Ugg boots, which plenty of Australians wear around the house from June onwards.

Nine of the twenty-eight words start with S, and six of those begin with SNOW, so the grid takes patience when lines can point in any of eight ways. Pin down Balaclava and Toboggan first, since their letter patterns are unusual, then work through the snowy group one by one, checking reversed lines as carefully as forward ones.

The winter solstice falls around 21 June, a fitting date for a long puzzle beside the heater.
