Pizza and pasta, extra hard

About this word search

Pizza Margherita is said to be named after Queen Margherita of Italy, with toppings in the red, white and green of the Italian flag. The story may be partly legend, but it gives a good start to a lesson about Italian food words.

Italian spelling is full of double letters, and a grid where lines can run in reverse or on the diagonal uses that against you. Cannelloni, Tagliatelle, Focaccia and Gnocchi all contain them, so a pair of Ns or Cs in a row is no proof you have found the right word. Prosciutto and Espresso are hard to spell from memory, so check against the list.

Older students learning Italian can sort the words into pasta, cheese and other dishes, then add the right article to each.
