About this word search
Italian words love double letters. Cannelloni, Cannoli, Tagliatelle, Panna cotta, Prosciutto, Espresso, Focaccia and Tortellini all have at least one pair. Bolognese comes from the city of Bologna, and Gnocchi starts with a gn that sounds like ny.
In the grid, those pairs help you find your way. Look for the double n in Cannoli, the double s in Espresso, the double c in Focaccia. Words go in every direction, including backwards, and Olive oil and Pine nuts appear without spaces.
After the puzzle, let older students pick three dishes and find out which region of Italy they come from. A fine lead-in to a lesson on Italian cooking or geography.
