Fruit, extra hard

Give it a try: drag a line across the letters.

About this word search

Some of these are botanical surprises. Rhubarb is a vegetable cooked like a fruit, and Avocado is a fruit eaten like a vegetable. Passion fruit vines climb over back fences across much of Australia, while a Mulberry tree is famous for purple-stained hands and shirts in late spring.

Five words end in BERRY and four in FRUIT, so the same endings repeat across the sheet, and with reversed and slanting lines allowed that gets confusing. Work from the rare letters instead: the Q in Quince and Kumquat, the V in Guava and Avocado.

For a cooking class or a market visit, ask students to tick off the fruits they can find in a shop and to look up the rest.
