About this word search

Several of these pets are Australian natives. The Cockatiel, the Budgerigar and the Bearded dragon all live wild here, and the Stick insect has plenty of wild relatives in local gardens and bush. The list also covers the less glamorous side of pet care, such as the Litter tray, the Sawdust and the Microchip.

Twenty-eight entries fill an eighteen by eighteen grid and may point any of eight ways, reversed ones among them. Two-word items like Scratching post and Water bottle appear as one unbroken string, which makes them easier to spot once you expect it. The X in Axolotl and the double R in Ferret and Terrapin are good places to get going.

Older children weighing up a first pet could use the list to plan what they would need before the animal comes home.
