About this word search

A Ferret can easily sleep fourteen hours a day, and a Gerbil thumps its back feet on the floor when it senses danger. Owners of either, or of a Cockatiel or a Chinchilla, will enjoy a list that reaches well beyond cats and dogs, with a Bearded dragon, a Terrapin and a Stick insect among the twenty-eight.

Many entries are two words run together, such as Litter box, Scratching post and Water bottle, so read the grid without expecting gaps. Nothing is off limits for direction here: up, down, sideways, slanted and reversed are all fair game. The X in Axolotl is a good first target, followed by the double R that Terrapin and Ferret share.

In a vet waiting room or at the pet store with an older child, this sheet keeps hands busy for a good while. Afterwards, pick three animals and compare what each one eats.
