About this word search

Liquorice comes from a root that has been used in sweets and medicine for centuries, and its name goes back to Greek words meaning sweet root. Humbug, Gobstopper and Sugar mouse are old British sweet-shop names, the kind once sold by weight from tall glass jars.

The grid runs eighteen squares across with words in every direction. Chocolate button and Sherbet lemon are long, good anchors. The Q in Liquorice and the K in Flapjack stand out among the softer letters.

A good follow-up for older children is to sort the list into things you bake and things you buy, which leads straight to Treacle tart and Trifle.
