About this word search

Simnel cake has a small piece of folklore baked into it. The eleven marzipan balls on top are usually said to stand for the apostles, with Judas left out. Egg rolling is an old habit in parts of northern England too, where hard-boiled eggs are sent down a grassy slope on Easter Monday, Avenham Park in Preston being the best known spot.

The grid is eighteen by eighteen and words go in all eight directions. Begin with letters that stand out, such as the Y in Hyacinth or the K in Catkin and Wicker basket. Then take the long phrases, Easter bonnet, Good Friday and Chocolate egg, which lose their spaces in the grid.

Older children who finish quickly can sort the list into food, plants and young animals, which turns Hatchling and Lambing into a small vocabulary lesson.
