About this word search

Some of these words come from ranch country rather than storybook farms. Corral reached English from Spanish by way of the cattle ranches of the American West, and a Cattle guard lets cars cross a fence line while keeping the herd inside. The Alpaca, a native of the Andes, now turns up on plenty of small American farms for its soft fleece.

Every word can run forwards, backwards or along a diagonal in this eighteen by eighteen grid. ATV is the shortest entry and easy to overlook, so save it for a moment when your eyes are fresh. CATTLEGUARD, SHEEPDOG and CORRAL each have a doubled letter that helps them stand out.

Older kids can split the list into words they would hear on a cattle ranch and words that belong on a dairy farm, with Heifer as the first one to argue about.
