About this word search

This list draws on several traditions. Rumpelstiltskin, Rapunzel and Hansel and Gretel come from the Grimm collection, the Tin soldier and the Mermaid are from Hans Christian Andersen in Denmark, and Goldilocks grew out of an English tale. Tracing where each one comes from makes a good research task for older readers.

Spellings in this big grid can be mirrored, flipped or tilted, so keep all eight directions in mind. Rumpelstiltskin is the longest single word, and the Z in Rapunzel and Wizard gives two quick wins. Fairy godmother and Sleeping Beauty appear as unbroken strings.

A creative follow-up is to retell one of the stories from the point of view of the villain.
