About this word search

Ceefax brought news, weather and football scores to the television screen from 1974 until 2012, one page at a time. The Test card filled the hours when nothing was being broadcast, and a Party line meant sharing a telephone line with the neighbours.

Further back still are the Ration book, which stayed in British kitchens until 1954, and Trading stamps, collected in little books and swapped for goods.

All eight directions are used, backwards included. TRANSISTORRADIO fills fifteen squares, and SLIDEPROJECTOR follows close behind with fourteen. Pager and Grocer are short and hide well, so keep them for the end.

Ways to use this word search

  • With your coffee

Print a sheet for a quiet moment at the kitchen table or in your armchair. Start with the regular version and save the hard one for when you really have time for it.

  • On the go

  • Puzzle together

Bring the sheet to your book club, a night in with friends or a visit to your parents and see who finds every word first. Or play online and find out who is fastest.
