Hard film and cinema word search

Twenty-eight words from both sides of the camera, the clapperboard and the red carpet among them, in an eighteen by eighteen grid. Like a good flashback, some of them run backwards, and others cut across on the diagonal.

About this word search

These twenty-eight words follow a film from the first idea to opening weekend. The Storyboard and Screenplay come early, the Cinematographer shapes the look, and the Clapperboard marks each take for the editor. A Matinee is an afternoon screening, though the word comes from the French matin, morning.

Words go every which way, reversed included. Cinematographer is the longest and a good place to start. Black and white, Science fiction and Film festival are written without spaces, so look for long strings of letters.

Movie lovers might use the list afterward to name one favorite title for each genre word on it.

  • With your coffee

Print a sheet for a quiet moment at the kitchen table or in your armchair. Start with the regular version and save the hard one for when you really have time for it.

  • On the go

Slip a few printed sheets into your bag for the train, a waiting room or a weekend away. A pen is all you need, no screen required.

  • Puzzle together

Bring the sheet to your book club, a night in with friends or a visit to your parents and see who finds every word first. Or play online and find out who is fastest.

Try it in Spanish too

The same theme also exists in Spanish, French, German, and Italian, each with its own word list in that language. Handy if you are learning a language: you already know the topic, now just the words.
