About this word search

This list goes behind the scenes, from the Clapperboard that marks each take to the Cinematographer who decides how every shot looks. Some words belong to the cinema many readers grew up with, such as the Saturday Matinee at the local picture theatre.

Search in all eight directions, reversed words included. Black and white and Science fiction become long strings without spaces, and Close-up and Make-up lose their hyphens. The J in Projector is the rarest letter here and a good place to start.

A book club that also watches films can use the list as a prompt, with each person naming a Sequel or a Blockbuster that turned out better than expected.

Ways to use this word search

  • With your coffee

Print a sheet for a quiet moment at the kitchen table or in your armchair. Start with the regular version and save the hard one for when you really have time for it.

  • On the go

Slip a few printed sheets into your bag for the train, a waiting room or a weekend away. A pen is all you need, no screen required.

  • Puzzle together

Bring the sheet to your book club, a night in with friends or a visit to your parents and see who finds every word first. Or play online and find out who is fastest.

Try it in Spanish too

The same theme also exists in Spanish, French, German and Italian, each with its own word list in that language. Handy if you are learning a language: you already know the topic, now just the words.

Is your theme missing? Type your own words into the word search maker. You get a grid with the answer key straight away, in the size you want.
