About this word search
Hot and Hat look almost the same, with only one letter different. That makes a nice small lesson for a child who is just starting to read: point at the middle letter in each and say the two words slowly, listening for the difference.
The ten words sit in straight lines across or down. Ice and Sun are good for a first try, since both are short. Beach and Shade are the longest words, and it helps to say the letters out loud while your child follows them along the row.
When the puzzle is done, pack a pretend beach bag together. For every word on the list, your child decides if it fits in the bag, like a hat, or if it stays behind, like the pool.
