About this word search
The teens and tens are where spelling starts to trip children up. Four has a U, and so does Fourteen, yet Forty loses it somewhere along the way. Eighteen has only one T, even though it sounds like eight plus teen. Dozen came into English from French and is still the word at every bakery counter.
The grid holds words across, down and on the diagonal, and every one reads forward. Many share an ending, so spotting TEEN or TY settles very little. The first two letters of each word are much more distinctive.
In a math lesson, students can write the matching numeral next to each word once it is circled, then check their answers with a partner.
