Playing

What exactly is Words with Mia?

A word search you can enjoy at your own pace. Swipe across the letters, watch the word light up, and never worry about a ticking clock. There’s one fresh puzzle every day, a gradually growing path of 250 levels, and separate puzzle books centered around a single way to play.

Is there a timer or an opponent?

No. There’s no timer, no bots, and no leaderboard to compete against. Two modes on the path do intentionally use a clock, Blitz and Mia’s Race, but those are just two of the 250 levels. Take as long as you like with the rest.

How long does a game take?

The daily challenge usually takes about five minutes. Levels on the Word Path start out shorter and gradually grow to around ten minutes near the end, as the board expands from six by six to eighteen by eighteen.

What happens if I get stuck?

You can ask for a hint, which briefly highlights one word. A limited number of hints are free, and you can earn an extra one by watching a short ad. You never have to skip a level. The path will simply wait for you.

The daily challenge and Sparky

Does everyone get the same daily puzzle?

Yes. Today’s puzzle is generated from the date, so everyone around the world plays the same board in their own language. Each day of the week has its own format, from The Warm-Up on Monday to The Trail Forest on Sunday.

Who is Sparky?

Sparky is the little flame that keeps burning as long as you play every day. It counts across all your languages. Complete the daily puzzle in Swedish instead of Dutch, and your streak will keep going.

I missed a day. Did I lose my streak?

Not right away. You can make up for one missed day by watching a short ad, and Sparky will keep burning from where you left off.

Does the daily challenge cost anything?

No. The daily challenge and Sparky are free in all fifteen languages, even without a pass. That won’t change.

Languages

Which languages can I play in?

Fifteen languages at launch, with twenty stamps: Dutch and Flemish, four varieties of English (UK, US, Canada, and Australia), German, French, Spanish, Portuguese (Brazil and Portugal), Italian, Swedish, Norwegian, Danish, Indonesian, Finnish, Catalan, Polish, and Turkish.

Does my menu language change if I play in another language?

No. The app language and puzzle language are separate. If you play a Spanish board with the app set to Dutch, everything around the board will stay in Dutch.

Can it help me learn a language?

A little. When you play in a language other than your menu language, you'll see a translation in parentheses after each word: "Lion (Leeuw)." That way, you learn as you search. It's not a course, but it does stick with you.

What are those stamps?

Each language has its own postage stamp featuring a distinctive letter: IJ for Dutch, ß for German, and Ø for Norwegian. Play in a language and you'll add its stamp to your language passport. There are twenty to collect.

Pricing and passes

What can I play for free?

The entire Word Path in your own language, the daily challenge and Sparky in every language, the first 25 levels in each other language, and five sampler books with fifteen levels each. You'll see ads between puzzles.

How much does a pass cost?

The Thuispas costs € 4,99 per month or € 24,99 per year and unlocks everything in one language of your choice. The Wereldpas costs € 7,99 per month or € 39,99 per year and does the same for all fifteen languages. Both remove ads between puzzles.

Can I buy a single book without a subscription?

Yes. You can buy a puzzle book with seventy-five levels for € 2,99 as a one-time purchase, and it's yours forever. You won't see any ads in a book you've purchased.

Can I switch languages with the Thuispas?

Yes, up to once a month. Your progress in the language you leave will be saved and waiting for you when you come back.

Are there lives, coins, or other currencies to buy?

No. Nothing runs out, and there's nothing you need to buy to keep playing. Everything you earn, including frames, portraits, and stamps, is unlocked by playing and is never for sale.

The basics

Do I need an account?

No. You can start right away. You only need an account if you want to carry your progress across devices.

Does it work offline?

Puzzles are generated right on your phone, so you can search without an internet connection. You'll need internet access to sync your progress and watch an ad.

Which phones does it run on?

The app is on the App Store for iPhone and iPad, and on Google Play for Android.

Still have a question?

The app keeps growing, so plenty still changes. If there's something missing from this page, we'd love to hear from you and we'll add the answer.
